Tooth Extraction in Indianapolis, IN

Dentist showing a patient an xray, indianapolis inTooth pain makes everything harder, whether it's sleep, work, or even a good meal. If you need a tooth removed, Affordable Dental Care makes the process simple: fast appointments, clear pricing, and gentle care so you can get back to your routine.

When Removing a Tooth Is the Best Choice

We always try to save teeth. But if one is badly broken, infected, or causing crowding, an extraction can stop the pain and protect nearby teeth. Common reasons include deep cavities, cracked teeth, advanced gum infection, problematic wisdom teeth, and teeth that make dentures or braces difficult.

What to Expect at Your Visit

  • Same-day relief when possible — Call in the morning, and we'll do our best to see you that day.
  • Straight talk about cost — Before we start, we’ll check your benefits and give you a written estimate—no surprise bills.
  • Comfort-first care — We'll numb the tooth fully so you won't feel any pain. Most extractions take only a few minutes once you’re numb.

Day 1–2 Post Extraction: Keep It Soft and Smooth

Choose foods that don’t need much chewing and won’t bother the area. Think pudding, scrambled eggs, and smoothies with a spoon (no straw).

Day 2–3: Switch to Softer Solid Foods

By day two or three, you can add softer solids, such as baked fish, tender chicken, steamed veggies, ripe bananas. Avoid very hot or spicy foods that can irritate the area. Chew on the opposite side.

Staying hydrated is important, so drink plenty of water. Skip alcohol for 48–72 hours.

General Post-Extraction Guidelines

Protect the clot to prevent dry socket:

  • No straws, smoking, or vaping for 72 hours
  • Don’t swish hard, spit forcefully, or poke the area
  • Keep gauze in place with firm bite pressure as directed

Clean gently:

  • Brush and floss the rest of your mouth the same day
  • After 24 hours, start gentle warm salt-water rinses two to three times daily.

Manage soreness and swelling:

  • Take over-the-counter or prescription meds as directed
  • Ice outside your cheek for 15 minutes on and off for the first day
  • Take it easy. No heavy lifting, sports, or bending for 48–72 hours

Simple, Step-by-Step Process

Woman smiling in dental chair getting teeth cleaned, indianapolis inDon't let the thought of tooth extraction overwhelm you. We'll walk you through the steps so you know exactly what to expect.

  1. Exam and X-Ray — We confirm what’s going on and discuss your options.
  2. Numbing and Removal — You’ll feel pressure, not pain. For stubborn or broken teeth, we may section the tooth to make removal easier.
  3. Post-Extraction Instructions — We place gauze to control bleeding and give you instructions to help a healthy blood clot form.
  4. Back to Work Faster — Many patients are comfortable returning to light work the next day.

Our team will provide full instructions, but the following tips will give you a head start on healing and recovery:

  • Day 1 and 2 — Rest, keep gauze in place as directed, and avoid smoking, straws, and heavy lifting to prevent dry socket.
  • Soreness — Over-the-counter medication usually manages it well; we’ll guide you on what and when.
  • Foods to Eat — Start with soft foods, such as eggs, yogurt, and mashed potatoes. Add more as it feels comfortable.
  • Follow-up — We’ll check healing and plan the next step if you’re replacing the tooth.
